Outreach
I aim to produce knowledge, teach and mentor others, and increase the accessibility of science. Connections between ideas, labs, and ultimately generations are built by solid communication that can be facilitated by seminar series, conferences, mentorship, and science media. As the Vice President of Graduate Women in Science I came to understand that science can be a universal language that everyone should have the opportunity to understand. It is important to me that community members recognize the expansive interface of science and “real” life and how it applies to their own environment. As the Graduate Women in Science Outreach Organizer I frequently organized and volunteered for outreach events, including Astrofest, Science Day, and Forest Fest. I collaborated with the Penn State Eberly College of Science Outreach Office to arrange outreach events hosted by a number of student organizations. A highlight of our collaboration was the Discovery-U Conference, a mini-conference highlighting Penn State faculty that had over 200 attendees including classes of high school students and community members.
